Caddisflies
There are 199 British and Irish species of caddisfly of which 3 have only been recorded in Ireland. As at 2013, a total of 119 of these species have been recorded in VC55 (Leicestershire and Rutland). These insects are also called sedgeflies or railflies, they are small moth-like insects, having two pairs of hairy membranous wings. They are closely related to Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies) which have scales on their wings.
