Cyrnus trimaculatus

Description

Length 6 to 9 mm. The wings appear dark brown mottled with pale yellow, but very variable.

Habitat

At the edge of still and slow flowing water. It is also attracted to light.

When to see it

May to September.

Life History

Mostly carnivorous. The development of the larvae takes place in water. They build nets with funnel-shaped opening, which are usually attached to aquatic plants.

UK Status

Widespread and fairly frequent throughout Britain.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
