A number of nice autumn birds visited the County this month. Marian Markham's photo of Baird's Sandpiper, Calidris bairdii, at Rutland Water very nearly won but in the end was just pipped to be post by the obliging Snow Bunting, Plectrophenax nivalis, at Beacon Hill which was very cooperative with photographers, here captured by Jane Hollingworth.
