Cap is conical to convex in shape, white to off white, sometimes with a brownish tinge and averaging around 10 or 12 cm. The gills are free i.e. not attached to the top of the stem, and they turn pink as the spores ripen. The stem has no ring but has a persistent sac-like volva at the base.
