Whorled Mint - Mentha arvensis x aquatica = M. x verticillata
This is a natural hybrid between Corn Mint (M. arvensis) and Water Mint (M. aquatica); may be present when both parent species are absent. It has whorls of mauve flowers and may have either flowers or leaves at the top of the stem. Leaves are stalked, toothed and hairy. It is a taller plant than Corn Mint.

Damp grassland, river banks and water margins.
Flowering July to October.
Perennial. Sterile hybrid, spreads vegetatively by underground rhizomes.
Widespread in much of Britain except the far north.
Scarce or under recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
In the Flora of Leicestershire (Primavesi and Evans 1988) it was found in 12 of the 617 tetrads, and in the Flora of Rutland (Messenger 1971) in 2 tetrads.
It is listed on the current VC55 Rare Plant Register (Hall and Woodward 2022) as Locally Rare
