Why not become a Mammal Spotter when you are out this week? More...
The Mammal Society have teamed up with the local Mammal Groups, including our very own Leicestershire & Rutland Mammal Group to help get people recording to try and fill the gaps in our knowledge during National Mammal Week (20th to 26th April 2026). One in four native land mammals in the UK now at risk of local extinction, So we could all do our best to improve our understanding of where they are. There are some very easy ways such as telling us about what you see in your garden or local park, or walking the “mammal mile” and telling us what you see on route. Setting up equipment that will record activity or their tracks and signs with cameras and footprint tunnels is also fun too. We have a team of experienced mammal specialists that sit behind the scenes at NatureSpot and will be able to verify any records sent in this week quickly and efficiently. Whether its Bats, Badgers or Brown hares, Muntjac, Mice and Moles, or even Stoats, Shrews and Squirrels, we welcome them all. Our more elusive mammals are harder to spot, but if you fancy a challenge, the Water voles and Weasels as well as the humble Harvest mouse will be there to test your tracking skills. Good luck and Happy Spotting!
