Winter Trees

When the weather allows you out for a walk, you could do worse than slip this tree guide in your pocket. More...

Identifying trees from their winter buds, twig structure, bark patterns and general outlines is surprisingly satisfying. Trees are also very beautiful in their leafless state. If you like a muddy winter walk with an aim in mind to learn a little more about trees, then this could be for you. A quick glance at the photos in this guide instantly reveals their sheer diversity. Generally they are extremely varied, and often easy to learn and remember. When you consider the difference between types of bark, size of tree and habitat, identification starts to become much easier than it seemed at first. This Field Studies Council AIDGAP guide covers 36 of the common broad-leaved deciduous species, or groups of species, that are most likely to be found in the UK, as well as a few rarer trees.
