Cattle Egret

The NatureSpot Photo of the Month for May is this image of a Cattle Egret, taken by NatureSpot contributor JohnBee. More...

Only a decade ago a Cattle Egret, Bubulcus ibis, would have seemed highly exotic - you'd wonder if it had escaped from a zoo. Now they are becoming increasingly familiar (take a look at the species page to see the records). What is particularly nice about this photo is to see them foraging on insects disturbed by cattle. Who needs to go on safari?

You don't need a fancy camera to take good photos - the best camera is the one you have with you, but read our Photography Help page: https://www.naturespot.org.uk/photography
