Fine afternoons bring forth bees and butterflies. More...
A warm(er) afternoon on 22nd February produced butterflies emerging from their over wintering torpor, including a Peacock Butterfly, Aglais io, at Launde, and a Brimstone Butterfly, Gonepteryx rhamni, at Thornton. Bumblebees have been about during warmer spells for a few weeks, and in the south of England, the first Beefly emerged yesterday (although it is likely to be a few weeks before they are out here). Meteorological spring starts on the first of March, only days away. There are good days just around the corner!
