Siskin

The NatureSpot Photo of the Month for January is this image of a Siskin, taken by NatureSpot contributor Neil Gillett. More...

The weather in January has not been favourable for recording many wildlife groups, but there have been some memorable bird photos submitted. Neil's great photo of a Siskin, Carduelis spinus, shows this lively little finch engaged in its favourite activity, eating the seeds from Alder cones. So if you'd like to see a Siskin, first find your Alder.

You don't need a fancy camera to take good photos - the best camera is the one you have with you, but read our Photography Help page. If you'd like to be a future NatureSpot Photo of the Month winner, submit your records!
