For groups with similar species some years ago we began adding extra identification help to illustrate the key features enabling you to tell them apart for recording purposes. These can be viewed by clicking the blue "Show identification aids" button on relevant species pages. We add to these whenever we have the resources available to do so. Recently beetle expert Michael Funnell contacted us and offered some helpful advice about beetles in the genus Malthinus - you can now see this on the relevant species pages. We will keep adding to and extending out identification aids whenever we can.
