Ticks

How to stay safe

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that can be spread to humans by infected ticks. It is easier to treat if diagnosed early. In England tick activity increases during spring, peaking from April to June. During this period, the risk of acquiring a tick bite is highest. As they used to say on Crimewatch, don't have nightmares, but do stay safe. Please read:

We know relatively little about ticks in Leicestershire and Rutland. Partly this is because they can rarely be identified from photographs. If you find any ticks, particularly in rural sites, if you are able to preserve them in alcohol we can arrange to have them identified for you by an expert (email: info@naturespot.org ) and you will contribute towards our knowledge of these arachnids.
