Wild places in this area
Leicester Forest East lies to the west of Leicester and is a relatively modern development, largely built during the twentieth century. It takes its name from the ancient Leicester Forest, which was once 14 miles long and 4 miles wide. The forest gradually declined in the 15th and 16th centuries due to development, over-felling and sheep grazing.

Moths Count!
Amazingly, over 500 different species of moth have been recorded in LFE, including this lovely Herald, named because of its early Spring appearance. Moths are important pollinators, as well as providing vital food for birds and bats.
