Site species count:
This is a public right of way that leads from Ferndale Drive to the pedestrian bridge over the M1 motorway. A further branch of the public footpath connects from Fielding Drive. The main path is bordered by a field hedgerow, retained when the adjacent houses were built. Trees and shrubs along this hedge include Hawthorn, Ash, Hazel, Blackthorn and Elm which together with the wildflowers in front provide a rich wildlife habitat. Grassland along the route is allowed to grow as a summer meadow then cut in late summer, but with the path borders regularly mown.
House Sparrows abound in the hedge and Blackbird, Song Thrush and Chiffchaff can be regularly heard. Slowworm has been spotted (possibly from a thriving colony on the M1 embankment).
