Microtendipes pedellus

This striking species has dark brown thorax, and a pale green abdomen with the final three tergites brown. The legs are pale with dark tips to the femora.The wings are unpatterned. Males have plumose antennae.

Damp areas and around standing water.

Adults from early spring.

The aquatic larvae develop in still bodies of water.

Quite widespread, but little recorded in Britain.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
