Tripe Fungus - Auricularia mesenterica
Fruit body disc shaped at first then spreading laterally to form densely tiered gelatinous brackets 2 to 4 cm wide; upper surface of bracket hairy, zoned greyish to grey brown, paler at the lobed margin, lower surface reddish purple to dark purple with a white bloom, gelatinous and rubbery, coarsely and irregularly wrinkled.
On stumps and logs of deciduous trees especially elm.
All year round.
Widespread in England.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
