Tawny Funnel - Paralepista flaccida
A fairly large woodland funnel, often growing in rings. Cap initially convex but soon funnel shaped, smooth and ranging in colour from yellow-brown to orange to rust; paler when dry. May have darker coloured spots. Gills deeply decurrent and cream/pale brown. Spore print pale cream, and spores small and spiny. 'First Nature' website refers to 'spout-like low points in the cap, making for a jug-like appearance'.
The Common Funnel Infundibulicybe gibba looks very similar but has smooth spores; it is recommended that these are checked for certain identification
This can be difficult to separate from Common Funnel by field characters, and we recommend that either the spores are checked or that it is verified from a specimen by an expert before sending to Naturespot. Also photograph from top down, in side view and from underneath to show gills and full length of stipe. Note habitat and substrate.
