Striate Earthstar - Geastrum striatum

Description

Fruiting body is a dull greyish-brown coming to a distinct point at the apex, this sits on top of a more brownish, star-shaped base with 6 to 9 rays.

They prefer a sandy soil and tend to grow under trees and bushes.

When to see it

Usually seen in ate summer and autumn, the spent fruiting body often persisting.

UK Status

Fairly widespread in England, but not common. Scarcer elsewhere in Britain.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland.
