Silver-ground Carpet - Xanthorhoe montanata

Description

Wingspan 24-28 mm. Displaying a wide range of differing depths of colour, although all forms have the distinctive whitish ground colour.

In woodlands, clearings and similar habitats.

When to see it

The adults fly from May into July and it can often be disturbed during the day from low vegetation. . However its main flight time is at night when it is a regular visitor to light traps.

Life History

Low plants such as Bedstraw are the foodplants in the larval stage.

UK Status

A common species throughout Britain. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

Common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
