Sigara striata
A species of water boatman, it is very similar in appearance to a number of other species. There are other similar species and certain identification requires detailed examination, if we cannot be certain that an image is Sigara striata but it is likely to be this species, it is highlighted in a red box.
Still water in reeds around lakes etc.
All year round
Males stridulate very loudly and can be heard yards away if placed in a shallow dish of water.
Infrequent with most records coming from the south-east of England.
Infrequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
