Sigara lateralis
5-6.5mm, the only species of the genus to have an entirely dark posterior claw. This is one of several very similar small water bugs. It has a pattern resembling a gold coloured wave effect on the elytra. Detailed examination is needed to identify the species.
Usually in and around water, but flies well and may be attracted to lights
All year round, but most likely to be encountered between April and October.
Widespread and fairly frequent in much of Britain, though less so in Scotland and in the west.
Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
