Sigara distincta
8-9mm. One of several very similar Corixidae species of water boatmen. Detailed examination is necessary for identification of species.

- 8-10 pale stripes on the pronotum
- tarsi pale (but hairs may be dark)
- xyphus broad and bent down towards the dorsum
- mid leg claws at least as long, or longer, than the tarsi
- clavus (front of wing cover) usually striped
- anterior margins of pronotum obtuse

Found in ponds or still water, usually among emergent vegetation. It is less common in moving water.
All year round, though most frequently encountered in summer months. It may be attracted to light.
Males stridulate very loudly.
Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
