Description

Wingspan 25-30 mm. Variable in colour but fairly easily identified.

Habitat

Grassland, acid heathland, woodland rides, roadside verges, sand-dunes and gardens.

When to see it

The species has one generation, the adults flying in July and August.

Life History

The larvae feed on Vetch and Clover.

UK Status

Widespread and fairly common throughout Britain. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

VC55 Status

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
