Scalloped Oak - Crocallis elinguaria

Wingspan 32-41 mm. This species shows some variation in the intensity of the markings but is usually easy to identify.

Woodland, scrub, hedgerows, parks and gardens.

The single generation flies in July and August.

The caterpillars show a polyphagous nature, feeding on a number of deciduous trees and bushes.

Ranging fairly commonly over most of Britain. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
