Rugilus rufipes
A small rove beetle usually 5.5 to 6.5 mm. Legs, antennae, and mouthparts pale reddish brown.
Very similar to some other Rugilus species.
Microscopic examination required. Rugilus species are often difficult to identify and may not be possible from photographs.
Found in a variety of habitats including woodland, also in grass tussocks, reed litter and rotting fungi.
Can be found in any month of the year, although the peak time is probably April and May.
Widespread and fairly frequent especially in the southern half of Britain.
Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
