Rudd - Scardinius erythrophthalmus
Similar to roach, but more bronze in colour, redder fins, dorsal fin more posterior, lower jaw protrudes.
Rudd thrive in well vegetated slow flowing and still waters.
All year but most often encountered in the warmer months.
Feed on small insects, crustaceans and plant material.
Widespread and fairly frequent in lowland England.
Fairly uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland. There are scattered records from lakes such as Scraptoft Lake and canals such as the Grand Union Canal, the isolated section of the Ashby Canal at Moira, and also few records in the River Soar and other large rivers.
