Ringed China-mark - Parapoynx stratiotata

Wingspan 15 to 28 mm. Although there are many variations of ground colour, this species is readily recognised by the dark ring with whitish centre on the forewing.

Near to ponds, lakes canals etc.

Flies from June to August, being attracted to light.

The larva is an aquatic feeder, living on pondweeds and other aquatic plants.

It is found in suitable habitat mainly in the southern half of Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Fairly frequent but not common in Leicestershire & Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant)
