Description

Wingspan 11-14 mm. Small greyish moth with a white head.

Hedgerows and open woodland.

When to see it

It flies at night during July and is frequently taken at light.

Life History

Larva mines leaves of Hawthorn, Rowan and Dog Rose, subsequently living within a silken web, often several together. The larva overwinters when small.

UK Status

Fairly common species throughout Britain except the far north. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

VC55 Status

Occasional or under recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = C (very scarce resident or rare migrant)
