Opomyza germinationis agg.

A small orangey fly with dark spotted wings. It is very similar to a number of other members of the group and for this reason we have used the term (cf) to denote the fact that to be absolutely certain of identification detailed examination of the specimen would be necessary. This species usually has more extensive darkening on the front margin of the wings.

Opomyza petrei

Prefers moist habitats and can be found in grasses and leaf litter.

June to October.

Breeds in grass stems. Walks very slowly and is reluctant to fly.

Widespread and common in Britain.

Status in Leicestershire & Rutland not known.
