This is a small (3.5 to 5 mm), mainly brown rove beetle.
Associated with decomposing material of all kinds, fungi, rotting wood, birds nests etc.
Mainly recorded in summer and autumn.
Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 76 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
