Myopa tesselatipennis

Description

Length 7 to10 mm. Palps brown (contrasting with the pale mouth-edge). Proboscis with the third section shorter than the second section and with the last section shorter than the front tarsus.

Life History

Conopid larvae are parasitic, developing inside the abdomens of bees or wasps.

UK Status

Scattered records through England and the Welsh borders, but not common.

VC55 Status

Rare in Leicestershire and Rutland. The Cropston record of 13 April 2019 is the first for VC55.
