Mydaea urbana
Mydaea is a genus characterised by seta on both the dorsal and ventral wings at the radio-cubital node. Very similar to a number of other related species – detailed examination may be needed to identify to species level.
- bristles on the radio-cubital wing node (both dorsal and ventral)
- reddish legs
- black scutellum
- arista hairs > 3rd antennal segment diameter
- pre-alar bristle much longer than the 2nd notopleural
- basicosta + trochanters blackish
- hairs around the base of the 2nd notopleural bristle
Should be examined under a microscope.
Various habitats, especially well vegetated areas.
May to October.
Known to breed in fungi such as Polyporus squamosus.
Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
Rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
