Microbotryum tragopogonis-pratensis
The smut fungus affects Tragopogon species such as Goat's-beard (Tragopogon pratensis) and Salsify (Tragopogon porrifolius). The flower heads may be destroyed and all that remains is dark powdery smut in the base of the flower.

Not well recorded in Britain, but the records suggest it is widespread, though perhaps infrequent.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
