Love-in-a-mist - Nigella damascena

Description

Upright, bushy plant with finely dissected leaves and solitary flowers that have 5 blue or white, petal-like sepals and feathery bracts, followed by inflated seed pods.

Disturbed or bare ground, usually close to habitation.

Annual.

UK Status

Occasional in Britain as a casual escape from cultivation which rarely persists for very long in the wild.

VC55 Status

Rare, or under recorded as a casual in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
