Liposcelis

Description

Liposcelis is a genus of insects in the order Psocoptera, the booklice and barklice. There are about 126 species.  They are about 1 mm long and often brown or blackish.  Because of the diffulty of identification to species level we have treated Liposcelis as a genus only entry.

Habitat

Many species are associated with human habitation and several are well known as pests of stored products such as flour.  They are also a pest species in museums.

When to see it

Any time of the year, but numbers likely to be higher in summer.

UK Status

True status is difficult to determine due to lack of records.

VC55 Status

Rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
