Knotgrass - Polygonum aviculare

Description

Short to medium, erect or sprawling plant. Leaves lanceolate to oval larger on main stem. Ochrea silvery, ragged, few veined, concealing the leaf stalk. Flowers solitary, or in small clusters, greeninsh, with pink or whitish margins.

A weed of waste places, roadsides and paths, bare ground etc.

Annual.

UK Status

Common in much of Britain except the far north.

VC55 Status

Very common in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 598 of the 617 tetrads.
