Description

Cap 1.5 to 3.5 cm across, conical, soon expanding, with prominent umbo, smooth and silky, with yellowish tinge. Though usually white, there is a lilac form var. lilacina that often grows together with the white form. The gills are adnexed, crowded, creamy coloured at first, darkening to clay.

Grows on the ground usually in mixed woodland but sometimes on mossy lawns.

Summer to late autumn.

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
