A dark pinkish brown fungus, the gills and stem are also brown and the stem base is slightly hairy.
other Gymnopus
This is difficult to identify from photos, and we recommend that a specimen is examined by an expert before submission to NatureSpot. Also photograph from top down, in side view and underneath showing gills, note habitat and substrate.
Mainly in leaf litter of broadleaved trees.
Autumn.
Widespread in England and Wales but not particularly common.
Rare in Leicestershire and Rutland.
According to Kibby (2020), this is "doubtfully British, but uncertain due to confusion with G obscuroides [found] in woodchip mulch. G obscuroides is quite common and in Britain [and is ] probably an introduced species." We have retained these records as they have been verified by an expert as G fuscopurpureus.
