Grey Pug - Eupithecia subfuscata

Description

Wingspan 17 to 21 mm. There are two main forms. The typical form is brownish, but the dark grey form obscurissima is also quite common, especially in urban areas.

It can be found in a wide range of habitats.

When to see it

It flies in May and June, and sometimes again in August.

Life History

The larvae live on a variety of herbaceous plants, eating the flowers and leaves.

UK Status

A common and widespread species throughout most of Britain. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

VC55 Status

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident).
