Golovinomyces sonchicola
Golovinomyces sonchicola is a powdery mildew, parasitic on various species of Sow-thistle. It forms irregular patches on leaves and stems and not infrequently coats entire leaves and seriously reduces the vigour of the host plant. Smooth Sow-thistle (Sonchus oleraceus) seems particularly susceptible.
Detailed microscopic examination is necessary for all records.
Wherever the host Sow-thistles occur.
Whenever the host species are in leaf, particularly in warm, dry periods of late summer when the fungus is often particularly conspicuous.
True status in Britain is difficult to determine due to lack of records, although it would seem occur fairly frequently.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
