Description

Usually instantly recognisable! Cap 10 to 15 cm across, globose or hemispherical at first then flattening, bright scarlet covered with distinctive white pyramidal warts which may be washed off by rain leaving the cap almost smooth and the colour fades. Poisonous and causes severe indigestion.

Most commonly found from late summer to late autumn

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.

Common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
