Dryad's Saddle - Polyporus squamosus

Description

A very large annual bracket fungus,initially circular or fan-shaped, ochraceous-cream covered in concentric dark brown fibrillose scales. Sometimes found in large tiered groups. The stem is off-set from the centre.   Pores large (1 - 2 mm wide), angular and elongated.

Habitat

On deciduous trees, especially Elm, Beech, Ash and Sycamore

UK Status

Very common throughout Britain.

VC55 Status

Common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
