Dictenidia bimaculata

Wing length 10 to 15 mm.  A shining, black looking species; the thorax is black, with more or less extensive orange markings. The abdomen is entirely black in the male, black with some orange lateral markings in the female ; wings with two large, dark spots, one extending down from stigmatic area to the discal cell, the other, somewhat smaller, situated at the wing apex ; legs orange, femora and tibiae black-tipped, tarsi blackish.

April to July.

Quite widespread in England and parts of Wales, not as well recorded from further north.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
