Delphacodes venosus
Length 1.4-2.5mm for brachypters, 3.0-3.2mm for macropters. A rather plain brown species. First antennal segment as long as thickest part. Frons without pale bar. Abdomen blackish. Vertex, pronotum and scutellum yellowish or reddish-brown. Forewings unmarked hyaline yellowish or reddish-brown in brachypters, reaching 2/3 length of abdomen with rounded posterior margin and prominent veins. Macropters have semi-transparent wings with dark veins.
Delphacodes capnodes.
Can only be identified by examination of internal genital structure.
The specimen should be examined under a microscope and the identifying features observed noted.
Marshy places, feeds on grasses, often around rushes and sedges.
All year. Mainly September to July.
Widespread across Wales and central and eastern England. Fewer records to the north and south.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
