Danish Scurvygrass - Cochlearia danica
Low to short plant. Basal leaves long stalked, rounded to triangular-heart shaped. Upper leaves stalked the lower stem leaves with 3 to 7 lobes. Flowers white or lilac-purple, 4 to 5 mm.
Early flowering, from February through Spring and early summer, a white ribbon right by the kerb, and rarely outside this salt-splash zone.
Originally a mainly coastal plant, it has now colonised alongside well salted main roads.
January to September.
Annual plant sometimes overwintering.
Frequent on coasts in Britain, and increasing inland.
Quite frequent and increasing in Leicestershire and Rutland alongside main roads where it is tolerant of winter salting. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in only 4 of the 617 tetrads.
In the current Checklist (Jeeves, 2011) it is listed as Alien (neophyte), locally abundant
