Crumomyia pedestris
A small black fly (3 or 4 mm) often with greatly reduced wings and appearing wingless, although fully winged forms do occur.

In grass and litter, sedge tussocks, manure and decaying matter.
All year round, but peaking spring to autumn.
Larvae feed on manure, decaying matter.
Widespread in the southern half of Britain.
Uncommon or under-recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
