Conomelus anceps
Length 4 mm. The ground colour of this distinctive planthopper is reddish brown and the wings have dark spots on the veins. It is most commonly brachypterous and in these individuals the forewings are darker at the base and tip. Macropters occur less frequently and have a dark median bar on the forewings.
Males can be identified by external structure of the genitals at 10-20X magnification; females can only be identified by examination of internal genital structure.
In meadows, woodlands and a range of other damp habitats.
Adult: May to November.
Widespread throughout Britain and a common species in southern Britain at least.
Not well recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
