Common Cavalier - Melanoleuca polioleuca

Description

Cap 3 to 8 cm, convex then flattened, often slightly depressed with a central boss, smooth, dark brown when moist drying buff. Gills whitish, stem slightly bulbous, whitish covered in dark grey-brown longitudinal fibres. The stem flesh is an unusual dark brown colour – tease the fibres apart with the fingers to see this.The stem is typically long - around twice the diameter of the cap.
