Common Carpet - Epirrhoe alternata

Wingspan 20-25 mm. Dark cross band on forewing has only one rather blunt outer projection.

It occurs in a wide range of habitats and is often flushed in the daytime.

This species has two generations in the south, flying in May and June and later in August and September. In northern Britain there is only one brood, in mid-July to mid-August.

The larvae feed on Bedstraws.

Quite common and fairly well distributed over most of Britain. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

Quite common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
