Cladonia fimbriata
Podetia grey-green, with cups (scyphi) abruptly expanded from the long, cylindrical stems, with finely granular soredia on the outer surface and interior of the cup (looking like fine flour). Apothecia on the margins of the rather distorted cups are brown but uncommon. Under magnification, minute brown pycnidia are often seen on the cup margins. There are no peeling squamules on the slender stem, even down to the base.
On soil and rotting wood.
All year round
Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
